As we've pointed out before on this blog, Rep. Michele Bachmann has a habit of glossing over her shameful voting record with rosy rhetoric.
Today, the Elk River Star published a letter to the editor that echoes these sentiments.
Read the letter after the jump.People are concerned about the behavior of Michelle Bachmann. She proclaims opposition to taxes and government spending and yet has spent her working life in the employment of the government. Her current job pays about $170,000 annually and includes federal health and retirement benefits. She also receives substantial annual farm subsidies which are tax supported. She frequently cites her involvement in foster care, a tax-supported program. She strongly advocates the school voucher concept which actually increases our tax burden by transferring tax dollars to private schools. Her rhetoric does not match her actions.
El Tinklenberg is a truly moderate politician with broad appeal. He is respectful of all points of view. He avoids partisan rhetoric and the negative and divisive politics that have so tainted our ability to find solutions. He understands that we elect public servants to represent the interests of all of us. As a former Methodist minister his beliefs are informed by his Christian faith. He brings these values to his public service, but he knows that in a pluralistic society it is his duty to represent people of all faiths. This is a man who will represent the voters of this district with integrity. He has earned my vote and I hope that he will earn yours.
